Harry Kitano was born in San Francisco, Calif. on Feb. 14, 1926 to Motoji and Kou Yuki Kitano. Raised in San Francisco's Chinatown, Kitano attended Galileo High School. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Kitano family was sent to the Assembly Center at the Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, Calif. Roger Daniels, Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Cincinnati, was born in New York City in 1927. Daniels served in the Merchant Marine during the latter part of World War II and served in the Army during the Korean War. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Houston, and received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1961.
